Do you have questions about the Helical Shaft Mount (HSM)? Below are some of our most commonly asked questions or you can view our Support area under Knowledge for more frequently asked questions and answers.
What accessories are used with the Helical Shaft Mount and what application do they work best with?
There are many accessories for use with the Helical Shaft Mount (HSM). Our patented Taper Grip Bushing is well suited for any application. A motor mount, backstop, torque arm, ABS belt guard, belts, breathers, sheaves and harsh duty seals are all accessories that work well with the HSM for any application. Also available are screw conveyor shafts, screw conveyor adaptor kits and screw conveyor seal kits. Contact your local representative for more information.
Are HSMs suitable for mixer applications?
Yes, only if the mixer's impeller is not attached to a long shaft. The impeller is subjected to radial loads, and the HSM bearings provide the shaft support. The HSM's compact bearing span makes it unsuitable for supporting radial loads applied at long distances from the reducer.
Are non-standard bores available for the Taper Grip® bushing?
Yes. Consult your Sumitomo representative for the availability of your bore size.
Are HSM reducers suitable for outdoor use?
Yes. Provide as much information as possible to your Sumitomo representative when discussing outdoor HSM applications. Corrosive, abrasive, hot, and cold environments each require a different type of optional seal.
